adjusting expectations

So… I think I’ve finally accepted the fact that there are just some things that aren’t a part of my life right now, now that I’m back in school and especially because of the on-going chaos in our house right now.

(I realize some of you don’t understand what the chaos is all about… I mean, we’ve moved in, right? Yes, and no. Ninety percent of our stuff is where it should be, but the rest is scattered all over floors and leaning up against walls. Couches are not in their final destinations. NOTHING has been hung or decorated. Piles of candles, albums and other miscellaneous items are all over the floors and half of our downstairs area is essentially empty. The office looks just like it did a day after we moved in…two months ago. Add to that all the accumulated animal hair and house project dust and you’ve got constant craziness.)

So, getting back to the things that AREN’T a part of my life right now:

-clean floors

-decent nails (I say ‘decent’ because mine are bordering on absolutely unacceptable, so ‘nice’ would be a unrealistic–in fact, the polish on my toes might actually GROW OFF before I get a chance to repaint…)

-French-press coffee (who was I kidding to think I could make that on school mornings?)

-sleep

-homemade granola bars

-homemade bread (as in, not using the breadmaker)

-homemade anything, really (although I have sneaked in yogurt and some muffins)

-free time (HA!)

-sitting (you think I kid)

-dried beans (canned ones are so much more convenient)

-dog walks…poor guy 😦

-exercise 😦 😦

-Budgeting–My brain just can’t handle anymore thinking! Sorry Andrew…

And then there are some things that are much MORE a part of my life right now:

-packaged convenience foods, like granola bars from the grocery store

-two and (sometimes) even three cups of coffee per day

-rushing

-stress

-HOMEWORK

-tardiness (except to class–I leave an hour and a half early!)

So, as you can see, things are little rough for me right now.

oh hawaiian, how i’ve missed thee

Tonight, I had something I haven’t had in LONG time: pineapple on my pizza.

Per our usual lately, Andrew and I opted for a quick (i.e. take-out) dinner since we spent much of the day toiling away at our various projects (updates to come soon).

We’d just received a mailer for a new place that just opened up–Leo’s–in East Aurora and after Andrew mentioned they had hawaiian on the menu, I was sold.  Neither Pasquale’s, John and Mary’s nor Capelli’s (all our go-to pizza places) even have pineapple on the menu!  SAD.

The good news: I got ham and pineapple on my pizza, and their wings are pretty good.  I still have two slices of my personal-size pizza to eat tomorrow.

The bad news: It really wasn’t that good at all.  Really sub-par crust, if you ask Andrew.

So, we won’t be going back there any time soon, I don’t think.

However, there is hope: Our neighbors have gotten pineapple on their pizza before (is it weird that I know that?), and I don’t think they got it from Leo’s, since it’s so new and all.  Must ask them from where they order their pizza…

Again, LOTS of progress being made all over the place this weekend.  Will post photos as soon as I can 🙂

my kind of day

It’s my day off of school and for once, I have nothing to do.  Nothing…  EXCEPT STAY HOME AND CLEAN!

WHOO-HOO!

Seriously, I’m almost shaking with excitement.  I’ve had so many things going on lately (school, interviews for the paper, grocery shopping, school, trying to work out…) that I haven’t had a chance to keep up with the regular day-to-day cleaning (and trust me, it shows).  Couple that with extra dust from a house project, clutter and the fact that I’m completely OCD about it all–and you’ve got one crazy girl who can’t take it anymore.

My Thursdays are usually full of errands and things (or 24 hours of painting!), that I can’t just CLEAN.

So, that is what I’m doing today.  And I’m making a loaf of garlic french bread in the breadmaker (what a life-saver that invention is!), and plan to make some zucchini bread if time permits as well.  Other time-permitting events include a trip to the post office (I will get Summer Rental back to you at some point, Emily!) and painting doors and trim in the guest room upstairs.  If I don’t get to them, oh well 🙂  There is always this weekend…

Speaking of this weekend–Andrew says I might be painting the laundry room, too!  FINALLY.  Cannot wait to post pictures of that!

I snapped a few photos to show you all the craziness/mess I’v been living with for the past few weeks…

Other tasks include:

-switching my Scentsy warmers to fall smells

-hanging our sheer curtains we just got in the mail

-paying our local school taxes

-moving houseplants from unheated porch to regular house

-wall repair/prep in the bedroom before touch-up painting

-a walk/visit to the Nyes with Hadrian?

I’m not sure I’ll be painting this afternoon…
