I don’t think a vacation has ever felt more like an escape from reality than ours did this summer.  OK, perhaps I should take that back.  Our month-long European trips of yesteryear certainly felt like an escape, but I’m not sure we ever NEEDED an escape as much as we did this time.

Miss Maelle goes to Washington

Earlier this month, we had ourselves an impromptu ‘spring break,’ and boy are we glad to have gotten out on a quick trip (and home again) before all the quarantining started!  Maelle and I had tentatively planned to join Andrew on a work trip to London in early May, but that’s obviously not happening…  We aren’t sure when our next opportunity to travel will be, and we feel the absence of trip-planning acutely; this will be the first time in four or five years that we aren’t planning a trip to Europe right about now. flying solo with an infant…literally

While Maelle’s first flight back in October was relatively smooth (thank you, Jesus), it was still a ‘trial by fire’ of sorts and completely unplanned.  Perhaps its spontaneity was the key to keeping my anxiety at bay; I simply didn’t have the chance to worry about it!  We have more air travel planned for January, so hopefully we’ll feel more prepared this time around.
