Deep Creek Lake 2024

After visiting my parents in DC, we drove–with the boat–to Deep Creek Lake in MD to join the Layers for our annual lake trip. It’s one of my favorite trips of the year.

As the kids have gotten older, it’s been fun to watch them do more and more in the water each summer. (This photo was taken from the dock in only a few feet of water and the children were being supervised, which is why Maelle isn’t wearing a life jacket.)

Freezie pops in the hot tub! Probably Uncle Andrew’s idea…

The kids really loved swimming in the lake this year!

I’m an early riser, so I enjoyed quiet mornings on the deck with breakfast and Bible-reading each day. I got my ‘Lake Girl‘ mug for my birthday and it was the perfect coffee cup for the trip!

We all went to play putt-putt one evening and Maelle got a hold-in-one!

The grown-ups’ favorite activity is tying the large inflatables together and floating near the dock. One blew away this year and I had to swim after it–quite a workout! Speaking of swimming; I did make it across the lake this year. I feel like I have to swim across at least once to prove to myself that I can do it.

I love this photo of Maelle (with Nutella on her face) and Andrew.

On the way home, we stopped at a roadside diner called the Red Rabbit Drive-In. It’s one of those old-fashioned carhop places, and we’ve always wanted to give it a try. But, they have limited hours, and we’ve never hit it at the right time. This time we did and it was a great way to stop and stretch our legs.

We broke the trip home up into two days (we’d had to drive the boat back to my parents’ house in DC), and Maelle got to swim in the hotel pool before bedtime.

We’re already looking forward to next year! Although we may not bring the boat again…while it was SO MUCH FUN, it was also SO MUCH HASSLE. Stress driving the boat to and from the lake, the added time to pick it up and drop it off. We’ll see!
