May flew by

And here it is, June 10, and I’m just now getting to a single post that will recap the busy month we just had. All good things, just LOTS of things!

After returning from London at the end of April, I made it my mission to get our patio set up as soon as I could. The weather had gotten nicer and I knew we’d start spending more time at the house, to do yardwork and begin cleaning as the house project was winding down. I wanted Maelle to have her water table and sand box, plus I hoped we’d be able to enjoy our patio a bit, perhaps coming back in the evenings for dinner or a fire. In fact, we did have our cousins over for a fire over Memorial Day weekend!

While Maelle is an EXCELLENT HELPER (She often asks “How can I help?”), she has enjoyed more outdoor screen time than I’d like. A necessary evil so mom can work, I suppose.

Our house project continued in fits and spurts, in big and small ways. We got our new front doors and even installed our own wood floor. See how it turned out here.

Maelle and I spent Mother’s Day in Ohio with Emily! At first, I was a little hesitant to be out of town on Mother’s Day, but it turned out to be a great decision! While Emily and I were having some much-needed girl time, Andrew got started prepping the wood floor, and was able to celebrate HIS own mother on her special day with his family. The kids got along really well. Here they are, coloring, while I ate a special cookie.

They enjoyed multiple playgrounds, outdoor time, make believe and even some baking in the kitchen.

We often forget to take photos together, so here is one we snapped just as Maelle and I were walking out the door to leave:

Maelle completed preschool this month! She received a certificate at her Spring program, during which the kids sang a few songs and the parents enjoyed a slideshow of photos taken throughout the year.

I found these matching outfits at the J. Crew Factory store in Ohio, and we’ve wore them to Emily’s church and now for her program.

Afterward, just like last year, we took Maelle out to lunch at one of our favorite places, the Bar Bill!

Unfortunately, the Memorial Day festivities in town got rained out, so we ended up skipping the Legion and staying put at Gillian’s pool. In between sprinkles, some enjoyed the pool and we celebrated my birthday that evening. I can’t believe 41 has come and gone already.

We discovered two baby birds nesting in our pergola this year. One afternoon Maelle and I watched the mama bird fly back and forth with worms for her babies, alternating which received the food each time.

The Toy Loft hosts an annual Lego contest and Maelle entered her creation. The theme this year was ‘Outside’ and Maelle built a ‘backyard patio’ complete with furniture, pool and fire pit.

She didn’t win, but we’re thrilled she tried! She’s gotten into Legos lately and enjoys building things, especially buildings.
