I attended my first homeschool conference last weekend! While Maelle goes to ‘morning kindergarten’ at a local church this year, we plan to homeschool her more traditionally going forward. Next year, I plan to keep her home each morning and do most of her subjects, and then have her attend a homeschool co-op a few afternoons a week.
Up until recently, New York was probably considered somewhat of a ‘homeschool desert.’ Thankfully, that’s changing. I hadn’t heard of Little by Little Homeschool until I saw that my favorite influencer, M is for Mama, would be speaking at their upcoming event. Guys, I could not buy a ticket fast enough! After being introduced to her first book, M is for Mama, by my SIL Hannah a few years back, I girl-crushed hard and fast.
Abbie and I are very similar; we are the same age, have the same values and many of the same interests, to include both being fitness instructors! (Her currently, me previously.) However, Abbie has been a mom for almost twenty years, so she has a lot more experience than me! She shares biblical wisdom for motherhood on her social media and podcast, and her second book, Hard Is Not the Same Thing as Bad, really resonated with me. Not that it was a new concept, but rather that it was all things I’d thought before as well. I feel like we’d be friends IRL if we lived in the same town. Alas, we do not.
But, at least I got to meet her and thank her for all the truth and encouragement she’s speaking to moms!

Can you tell I’m fan-girling real hard right now?!
The conference was a great little getaway for me. There were a few homeschooling mamas speaking about their experience and offering encouragement. We sang ‘Abide’ by Aaron Williams and Jon Reddick a few times, which was new to me. I immediately loved it. Imagine my surprise when they played it at church the NEXT MORNING for the first time. I left the conference excited for our homeschooling journey.
Bonus: I got to listen to an audiobook in the car there and back!

I’m looking forward to attending more homeschooling and theology/apologetics conferences next year!
