house project: wide open spaces

Anyone a Dixie Chick fan? (Or perhaps WERE you a fan in the 90’s? What teen girl wasn’t??) I’m not anymore, but we won’t get into that here.

Look how open the house is!!! (Yes, that IS three exclamation points.)

From the front door, you can see clear across to the back TV/dining room (see this recent house post for our conundrum about the fate of that space). You won’t be able to see into the porch room (to the left in this photo, above) once the drywall is up, but you will be able to see the doorway and a lot of light will be coming through.

From the middle of the kitchen, you can see all the way to the back entry:

Here’s the porch room from the doorway off the entry:

And here you can see (or WILL be able to see once the plastic is removed) the other side of the downstairs through this doorway:

We are so pleased with how much bigger and open the downstairs looks. This last week or so has made me realize how *little* difference I thought these changes would make to our space as a whole. Seeing the new entry and the kitchen addition on the drawings made them seem completely separate, but actually walking through the space makes me understand how they work together to completely change the flow and feel of our entire first level. It’s truly amazing and I credit our architect with the vision to design this.

Up next: how long will it take me to clean up this mess?!
