Just like we did last year, Maelle and I joined Andrew on a work trip to Alexandria before spending Easter with my parents at their house. Clearly, I should have read last year’s post, as it likely would have deterred us from going to the Smithsonian–again–on a holiday weekend. (Although, is there EVER a time it’s not busy?!)
This time, Maelle said buh-bye! to preschool when I picked her up early to hit the road Thursday. We surprised Andrew (who flew into Alexandria from another work trip) by arriving early and were able to get Thai food for dinner before going to bed. I even grabbed a late drink with a college friend, Phil, since Andrew was ready to hit the sack with Maelle!
Also, don’t miss all the bunnies Maelle wore this Easter weekend!

The following day, we stayed in Old Town and enjoyed the sunshine while Andrew was largely stuck in the hotel on work calls. He snuck out for breakfast and lunch at least 🙂

After playing at the park and running our usual errands in Old Town, Maelle and I split a Tropi-Kale smoothie from South Block. It’s a staple; she asks for a smoothie every time we visit!

Later that evening, we braved a little wind and grabbed a pre-dinner drink at Augie’s.

The following day, Josh (he’s in the background!), Hannah, Jack and baby Layne (as well as Hannah’s sister, Hailey), joined us in Old Town! Hannah wanted to go into DC on Saturday before Easter, and figured we’d get out the door a little easier if we weren’t staying all the way out in Manassas at mom and dad’s. She wasn’t wrong, but we didn’t necessarily get out the door any earlier!
We ended up enjoying a leisurely morning in Old Town, I met Bets for coffee, took Hannah to 529 Kids Consign and we grabbed lunch before heading into the city. Unfortunately, our trip was ill-fated from the beginning; neither Metro ride included everyone (long stories, but one involved a bathroom break and the other a missed train by about 3 seconds), the Children’s Museum was full, and the Smithsonian was PACKED. I simply must figure out when the best time is to go.
Here’s a happier moment featuring two cousins with matching ice cream cones:

After our whirlwind trip into DC and then the trip to mom and dad’s (and subsequent children’s bedtimes), it was nice to have a slow morning at home. We did breakfast on our own, opened Easter baskets and then had an egg hunt. We’d decided not to go to church, which I didn’t love, but we did a family lunch at home instead and left in good shape.
More bunnies! I think that makes FOUR outfits with rabbits so far?!

Happy Easter from our little peeps!
