Well, let’s just say I wasn’t expecting this.
The short version: A week before Christmas, Maelle got bumped at preschool and came home with a VERY wiggly tooth. Three days later, it came out while she was eating lunch at home. No fuss, no muss.

The long version: Earlier this year, Maelle bumped into a little friend at one of those indoor trampoline places, and it softened her tooth–enough that we went to her dentist for x-rays. (Our besties are prosthodontists, so obviously we had them take a look and they recommended we make sure there wasn’t any actual damage to her jaw.) The x-rays revealed that her permanent teeth were *just* below the baby teeth, so there wasn’t much gum for them to hang onto, anyway. Thankfully, it firmed up and we all forgot about it. Fast forward to a week before Christmas, she gets head-butted while playing ‘the floor is lava’ and that tooth went from barely soft to almost out overnight. Maelle was waffling between excitement and hysterics at the prospect of losing a tooth, which I wasn’t going to be able to handle much longer…I was tempted to take it out myself! I had a fun tooth fairy book stashed away, so I grabbed it and we enjoyed reading that together while we waited for it to come out.
Well, we didn’t have to wait long (three days!), and there wasn’t even any blood! Even though she said she knew the tooth fairy wasn’t real, we still left a silver coin under her pillow for fun.
